Katrina works in HR at our SA Head Office and she used to marvel at people who were able to give up their own time to commit to volunteering and wonder how they found the time. It wasn’t until she found something that she was passionate about and enjoyed doing that she was then able to understand.
Katrina is a volunteer Guide at the Adelaide Zoo and recently she had a group from Deaf Can Do. She says: “It really made me appreciate the animals in the zoo from a visual perspective and to explain about the animals in a different way. Instead of listening to the sounds, I explained why they make sounds and how they communicate using not only sound but visual stimuli as well. This group were so appreciative and at the end we both benefitted, they left with huge smiles on their faces and learnt about the animals…this is what is memorable for me!” Read more…

A big Woof Woof to all of my friends at Eastwoods!
You will all be very proud of me… I commenced my formal training eight weeks ago and I have been working very hard to learn new tasks. I have been learning basic guiding skills like learning to walk in a straight line, stop at kerbs, and make left and right turns. The most difficult task I am learning is how to move around obstacles. My Guide Dog Trainer is very patient with me and I try to make sure she doesn’t bump into any obstacles. I have to concentrate very hard.
I have been on so many new adventures lately. I have been told it is very important that I visit different environments to help me with my training. I started with walks around my neighbourhood and then visited the busy streets of Unley and Norwood. I have even been to Burnside Shopping Centre – that was so much fun. Read more…

Charity of Choice is an initiative of our Community Program where each department and branch, choose a not for profit organisation or community group of their choice to support for a certain period.
During this period, teams raise funds and awareness for their chosen charity group through casual days and other fundraising activities. The objective of this initiative is to engage staff, members and the general public to raise awareness of the charity or organisation in your local area!
From October to January our Sefton Plaza branch chose to support SA Dog Rescue as one of our staff members, Amanda Powell, is a passionate supporter of their work to rescue dogs and cats and find them good homes in the community.
The Sefton Plaza branch managed to raise $700 for the charity through raffles and a ‘guess how many lollies in the jar’ competition, as well as collecting donations of many items such as food and toys. Read more…

Our Eastwoods team is very proud to have been able to assist Guide Dogs SA/NT in sponsoring a Guide dog (little Eastwood) to help him get the training he needs to help change lives. Here’s a snapshot of what little Eastwood has been up to with his sister sister Asha.
They’ve been doing a great job assisting Guide Dogs staff with their Bronze Paw training.

Look forward to giving you more updates on Eastwood’s progress.

Congratulations to all the little athletes who participated in the Community CPS Personal Best Day.
Community CPS is a proud supporter of Little Athletics, we will assist with special events, provide funding for coaching and officiating courses for parents and we’ll provide them with community fund-raising for Little Athletics.
You can support Little Athletics by opening a Community Reward Account. Paul, Hannah & Elise
The SA Ambulance Service is an integral part of South Australia’s health system. They provide emergency medical assistance, treatment and transport to the people of South Australia.
Whilst no one really ever wants to call on their services, recently one of our staff had to. 18 year old Hannah became gravely ill and a quick thinking paramedic from SA Ambulance administered her with lifesaving antibiotics.
Unknown at the time Hannah had meningococcal. SA Ambulance’s treatment meant that Hannah made a full recovery.
When we asked Judy, Hannah’s mother who is also an employee at Community CPS how we could help her family during this time, she asked if could raise funds for SA Ambulance in honour of the outstanding care they provided Hannah.
Our staff were quick off the mark to get fundraising going. Supporting a great organisation who took great care of their colleague they rallied together and raised $3,500 which will go towards SA Ambulance’s Development Fund – used to conduct staff training and purchase medical equipment.
On behalf of Community CPS, Hannah and her family, we’d like to say a big thank you to SA Ambulance.

To get into the spirit of Christmas, managers from South Australian branches got together and volunteered their time to two different groups. Half the managers wrapped presents for a Women’s Shelter in Adelaide and the other group worked for Camp Quality clearing out a warehouse that was to be used for the children to have a camp/Xmas party.
Everyone really enjoyed participating in this group activity. Manager of Sefton Plaza, Marg Green said “For me personally gave me an insight to do volunteering for the Women’s Shelter in the New Year and to also have this organisation for our next Charity of Choice to raise money at Sefton Plaza Branch.” Read more…

Community CPS has been a proud partner of the Windmill Theatre since 2007 and we are even more delighted to announce they are working together with another community partner of ours, Camp Quality!
Windmill Theatre offered Camp Quality a unique experience for the fifty children attending Junior Camp and the careers/volunteers. As well as attending the show, performed and created by former Cirque du Soleil star Jamie Adkins, the Camp Quality children took part in a thirty-minute mini circus workshop, presented by members of the Cirkidz Troupe on Her Majesty Theatre’s stage. The children also had a meet and greet with Jamie himself.
The special outing is part of Windmill and Community CPS’ ‘Hands-On Theatre’ program, which was designed as a set of tailored workshops conducted by Read more…

Pageant day finally arrived. I was so excited to see the floats arrive on South Terrace.
It was early and I could already see people starting to arrive to set up their picnic rugs behind the blue honour line. I could hear the carols playing through the streets, I started to get even more excited!
As we all started to get ready in the morning my whole body was buzzing with energy I wanted to jump, sing, dance and do cartwheels all at the same time! Watching everybody transform into Clowns, Christmas trees, pirates, fairies and everything else that little kids dreams are made of was magical. Even though it was super early no one was complaining, there were smiles all around as we got into costume and make up. I truly felt like a princess in my gown and make up!
When we hit South Terrace the magic continued, parents and their kids stopping us in the streets for photos as myself and the other princesses skipped along to the tunes of the different floats and the carols being played.
And then the count-down began, it was pageant time and it was all smiles all along the way. I couldn’t get the smile off my face as we passed the crowd, it was truly memorable. Read more…

Community Credit Union Christmas Pageant South Australia
I thought I would take this opportunity to thank everyone for the experience that has been the Credit Union Christmas Pageant.
Words cannot not describe what an honour it has been for me to be this year’s King. To be able to share this experience with so many people has made it even more special.
Leading up to Pageant day, I have been very fortunate to visit a number of schools with my fellow Royal family, bringing the Credit Union Christmas Pageant magic to kids who may not be fortunate enough to attend Pageant day. We did a couple of performances too which was a lot of fun!
A special moment for me was shooting hoops with the Royal Family and kids at the Riverland Special School. Whilst in Berri we also visited St Catherine’s Aged Care where we met many of the residents including a lovely 104 year old who was delighted to meet the Pageant Royal family. Read more…

Community Credit Union Christmas Pageant South Australia
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the wonderful experience I have had being part of the Next Top Credit Union Executive competition.
Firstly thank you to everyone who voted for me along the way, followed my posts and gave me encouragement and inspiration.
I feel very blessed to have been part of the process and been able to share what we do in the social space at Community CPS.
Presenting to the conference in Florida was amazing. It was great to meet my fellow colleagues in the final 5 Jill Huls, Ashley Kohlrus, Nate Muniz and Peter Walker. I learnt a lot from their projects and presentations. They are a very clever and talented bunch! You can view their presentations online.
Some highlights for me include meeting an industry leader – Tim McAlpine from Currency Marketing and one of the best sessions was presented by Filene on strategic foresight.
And of course a big congratulations to this year’s winner Ashley Kohlrus.
Thanks again everyone, I was very proud to be able to represent Australia and Community CPS on an international stage.
